Discussion

Let's discuss. I finished it earlier today. I read it in two sittings as I had to give Quinn some attention yesterday. Quinn even teased me that I was going to sleep with it under my pillow. Don't worry I didn't. On to the important things, let the discussion begin.

SPOILER ALERT!! DO NOT CLICK ON COMMENTS UNTIL YOU HAVE READ THE BOOK!!!

For those of you who load comments on the same page I'm leaving white space to help prevent spoiling.

Well, first off...I loved it. It felt so rewarding and fulfilling when it was all over. I never expected Harry to die because how bad would that suck???

A few moments that moved me...

1. Fred. Really? Fred??? I just loved Fred and George and to have one of them gone really shocked me.

2. I just felt this swell of pride as everyone poured into the room of requirement ready to take a stand and fight. It just felt like this is what we had all been waiting for and hoping for.

3. Albus Severus Potter. I love it. Snape has always been one of my favorites and I never doubted his loyalty to Dumbledore and knew that it obviously had to do something with his love for Lily. I just love that Harry named one of his kids after him. A fitting tribute to a character so misunderstood for 7 books.

There were a few parts that were confusing. I was a bit confused on the Elder Wand and how Draco was the master of it. I did how to go back and reread that part since I didn't catch it the first time around. However, I think that is to be expected with such an intricately woven story.

Other thouhts? Likes? Dislikes?

I liked the part where Joseph Smith wrestled the bear. That's what people used to tell me when I asked them if they read the Book of Mormon I gave them on my mission. Sorry, Dev Hoyo, but Harry Potter books can't be better than Agatha Christie mysteries. Besides the author is gonna give in and write some more....just for the money.

Now OSC is somebody that I can get into. When did Empire come out and what is it about?

Devry said...

LD, I'm not sure when Empire came out, not too long ago as it is only available in hardback. I highly recommend it. It is pretty much a book about what a civil war would look like if it happened today in America.

And also jla, JK has said that if she writes anything else for the HP universe that it will be for charity.

I LOVED it! It was simply gripping. I mourned the loss of Fred, but I cried with Dobby. My favorite moments include:
1. Ron returning and saving Harry from drowning ("Are you mental?")and then stabbing the locket.
2. Neville pulling the sword out of the flaming hat and slicing off the snake's head - SO COOL

My least favorite part:
1. Bathilda Bagshot's house - filthy, disgusting, and EW! You know what I mean.

The answer to that age old question: How Harry Potter's wand works

KickButtMommy said...

Devry, I am with you! I always knew Snape's motives were good! I did not, however, guess that Dumbledore would have died anyway! I also thought the name of Harry's children were sweet!

The Elder wand became Draco's when he took it from Dumbledore and threatened him with it. Of course, then Snape came in and killed Dumbledore, but not with the Elder wand, does that make sense.

I loved both the parts Cara was talking about. I also loved when Ginny kissed Harry, but I was waiting for some kind of reunion moment for the two of them that never came.

Sad about Fred, but I thought it would be someone we were even CLOSER too. Like Ron or Hermione.

Love McGonagal. She is always one of my favorites.

Neville stepped up and that was so cool.

I could go on... but

Draco didn't talk the Elder Wand, he used Expelliarmus, and the wand flew out of Dumbledore's hand and off the tower. Draco never touched it, but since he was the one who disarmed the wand, he become the master. Then Harry disarmed Draco, and mastered his wand, so in essence the two wands that used to be servant to Draco were then servant to Harry.

Sounds like alot of work when all "H-Pizzle" needed to do was to just shoot "V-Dogg" with his 9mm. I guess J.K. didn't want to expose her thugish upbringing on the streets of Winterbourne.

D--I just had too much to say, so I had to post myself...

Okay, So I'm the last to read HP #7. The book was thoroughly thrilling and so many threads from previous volumes were at last entered into the over all tapestry. She is an amazing writer with a great imagination, which is why she is so rich.
Confusing points for me were:

1. Where was HP going to put the Elder Wand for safe keeping til he died a natural death? Back in Dumbledore shattered tomb?

2. Why did Lily end up with James when she considered him to be such a prig?

3. I think that Snape deserved more than a deathbed redemption with all the readers. Just a couple of sentences and all was well??!!! The epilogue comment that Snape was "a Slytherin and he was probably the bravest man I ever knew" was a just parting shot.

4. And what happened to the old hypothesis that "Aunt Petunia would turn out to be a more powerful witch than her sister and save the day"?

5. I missed how Neville retrieved the sword of Gryffindor from Griphook.

6. Who is Victoire?!!!

7. Please tell me that McGonagall was the new headmistress of Hogwarts.

8. That's all for now.

Wendy and I loved the book too, and felt very satisfied by the end. One question: why didn't they explain the phoenix that rose from Dumbledore's grave at the end of book 6?
